Traffic on historic Mughal road disrupted due to landslides

SRINAGAR : Traffic on historic Mughal road was disrupted due to landsides, triggered by rains while the Srinagar-Jammu national highway was through.
A traffic police official said that heavy rain triggered landslides at several places on this historic road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu region.
”We stopped the traffic from both sides and authorities have started operation to clear the landslides,” they said adding traffic will be resumed only after receiving green signal from the official posted on the road, being seen as alternative to the Srinagar-Jammu highway.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has already approached the Union Government to declare the historic road as National highway. Reports reaching here said that large number of vehicles are stranded on both sides of the road after landslides. (AGENCIES)
