UGC Career Counselling Lecture held in JU

Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Sept 22: The Department of Statistics under the aegis of Dean Placements, University of Jammu, organized a Lecture on ‘Indian Official Statistics and Job Prospects of Statisticians’ for the students and scholars of Statistics Department in the Seminar Hall of the Department, here today. The resource person was S Suresh Kumar, Director, Central Statistical Organization, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India, who spoke at length about the Indian Official Statistics and made the participants aware of its applications and the employability prospects of Statisticians in the form of Statistical Officers, Investigators, Computing Assistants, Risk Analyists, Compilers etc., in its various branches like CSO, NSSO, Directorates of Economics and Statistics and others. Earlier, Prof Rahul Gupta , Head, Department of Statistics, welcomed and introduced the resource person to the participating students and scholars of the Department and Prof B C Sharma, Dean Placements , University of Jammu, expressed his desire to make every student in the campus employable and thanked the UGC for providing grants to organize such career counseling lectures for the benefit of the students. Prof J P Singh Joorel presented the Vote of Thanks at the end of the lecture which was also attended by faculty of the Department which included Dr Pawan Kumar, Dr Parmil Kumar and Dr Vijay Shivgotra.
