SRINAGAR, July 4: V. Shashank Shekhar, Joint Secretary-Police II Division, called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.
The Governor spoke to Shekhar about the importance of continuing modernization of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and promotion of welfare measures for their personnel, particularly those deployed in J&K.
G.M. Khawaja, former Director, UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Institute of Kashmir Studies (UMIKS), University of Kashmir also called on Governor.
Prof. Khawaja discussed several research projects and other initiatives which are necessary to see that the glorious pluralistic history of Kashmir is correctly recorded and is available in several languages for the benefit of the coming generations.
A group of 15 young Indian Police Service Probationers including a lady officer from Maldives, who are here for a Study cum Cultural Tour also called on Governor.
During interaction with the Probationers, the Governor spoke to them about the challenges facing the J&K Police and Security Forces to maintain internal security in the State. He also spoke about the close co-ordination between the Security Forces and the State Police and the crucial importance of ensuring the speedy modernization of police forces, particularly for upgrading their capacity for dealing with mobs and large crowds without using lethal weapons.
The Governor wished all the trainees successful careers in the Indian Police Service.
P.K Tripathi, Principal Secretary to the Governor and Deputy Commandant Tejpal Dabar, Faculty Member of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad, were present on the occasion.
