Srinagar, Sept 22: Police and Army today busted a Hizbul Mujahideen module in Tral area of South Kashmir that was tasked to target police men and Panchs and Sarpanchs of the area.
Police sources said that the Tral police and Tral based 42-RR of the Army were after the militant module for past two months since it came on their radar.
A police spokesman identified the three arrested members of the Module as Noor Mohammad Zargar son of Abdul Aziz resident Tral Payeen, Fayaz Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Shaban resident of Largam Tral and Qashif Rashid Bhat son of Abdul Rashid resident of Lariyar Tral Payeen.
Police said one snipper rifle and two pistols were recovered from their possession. Police have registered a case against them and investigations are going on to find out their activities.
Police sources said that Noor Mohammad was arrested in 2007 in various militancy related incidents but was later released. Fayaz Ahmad Bhat is brother of an HM commander who was killed by security forces in 2010. Police sources said that Fayaz is motivating the youth of the area to join militancy. He had also lured Qashif Rashid Bhat to militancy, they added.
Police sources said that the module had been activated two months back during which they targeted two Panchs in Tral area. These Panchs, however, survived the attack but were injured.
The sources further said that initial investigation has revealed that the trio had made bid on several more Panchs and Sarpanchs but failed in their attempts to eliminate them.
It may be mentioned here that militants targeted Panchs and Sarpanchs in Kashmir valley for past one year leading to resignation of over 400 of them. So far over two dozen Panchs and Sarpanchs were targeted by militants since last year resulting in the death 5 of them and injuries to over 18.
