JAMMU, July 7: A 25-year-old youth today drowned in Chenab River in Akhnoor area of city outskirts.
According to a police spokesman, the youth identified as Sanjay Kumar son of Bachchan Lal, resident of Village Rakh Radoom (Garkhal) along with some of his friends went for an excursion near Chenab River at Garkhal, this afternoon.
He said while taking a bath in the river, Sanjay drowned, as he did not know swimming. His companions raised an alarm and launched a search operation along with the locals but they could not locate the body of Sanjay till late evening and the search operation was suspended due to darkness.
Meanwhile, the concerned police had taken cognizance of the matter and started investigations.
