DSS asks Govt to honour promises made with Chamel’s family

JAMMU, July 8: Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS), J&K, today asked Central as well as J&K Government to honour the promises made with the family members of Chamel Singh, who was assassinated in Kot Lakhpat Jail of Pakistan.
The issue was raised by a high level delegation of DSS led by its president, Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak, which visited Pargwal area and met the family members of late Chamel Singh.
Speaking on the occasion, Charak said that the victim family should be compensated at par with the family of late Sarabjit Singh-another Indian killed in the same infamous Pak jail.
It is pertinent to mention here that two daughters of late Sarabjit Singh were provided Government jobs besides Rs 1 crore from the Punjab Government and Rs 25 lakh by the then Government at Centre beside martyr status to Sarabjit.
The delegation also asked the Union Government to fulfill its promise of allotting 5 Marla plots to border residents which the BJP had made during the time of elections.
Apart from this, special recruitment drive for the people of border areas was also demanded by the delegation. Crop Insurance, de-silting of irrigation canals and a bridge over River Chenab to connect Pargwal with Jourian was also demanded.
The delegation expressed concern over the diversion of River Chenab effecting agriculture land and demanded a bund be constructed at the affected place to stop the river diversion.
The delegation was comprised of GS Jamwal, Dr NK Dogra, Col (Retd) Karan Singh Jamwal, Chhatter Singh, Janak Khajuria, Sudhir Singh Jamwal, Chhankar Singh, Kulwant Singh, Kulbir Singh and Jagdeep Singh.
