JAMMU, July 8: Various organization of Displaced persons from Pak occupied Jammu and Kashmir have urged upon the Government to spell out the details of the Central package to end the chaos and confusion among DPs and honour the commitment made to resolve the issue in totality.
The appeal was made during a joint meeting of all the organizations of displaced persons of 1947 from PoK and Chamb sector, here today, wherein Gurdev Singh, president, Netar Prakash, general secretary JKSAC, J S Sudan, Suchwant Singh of MJR-47, S R Nagial (president) of Chamb Displaced Person Association of 1965 and 71 and PoJK leaders participated.
They sought to know how the Government has fixed the quantum of relief for each DP family without ascertaining the total strength of families to be benefited under the package as the strength of families has increased many fold after the death of their head of the families. They also asked the Government to justify how Rs 5.5 lakh have been fixed uniformly as quantum of relief without taking into account the loss of life and property of each category.
They demanded that the Government should clarify the nature, shape and status of Rs 2000 crore package which has been announced without any road map. “We have failed to understand and need clarification whether this amount is a part of Rs 9096 crore package submitted by Omar Abdullah Government on 20/10/2014 or is a part of cash relief of Rs 30 lakh for each DP family, recommended by Joint Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs?” they asked.
They warned the Government that while fixing the quantum of relief, the figures of 31,619 families of PoK including 5300 families settled outside the State be taken into account in totality. “The bifurcation of the families will create impediments for the disbursal of the package and moreover it may invite unnecessary litigation which would not be in the interest of Government as well as DPs of all the categories,” they added.
While reaffirming their faith in coalition partners, particularly BJP, they said that it is the most appropriate time to take up the issue seriously and evolve a comprehensive road map taking into consideration all the demands of DPs to resolve the issue to reciprocate the faith the DPs have reposed in them.
