SAMBA, July 9: The traders of Vijaypur observed a total bandh today and held a massive demonstration in protest against the failure of  PDD to provide uninterrupted power supply in the Vijaypur and adjoining areas.
A large number of people including members of Beopar Mandal Vijaypur assembled at Ramgarh road and took out a protest march and raised slogans against the PDD and local MLA for not maintaining power supply in the area.  The traders closed their establishments and joined the protest and took a procession to Main Chowk. They however, did not block the National Highway and continued protest against the PDD authorities.
The protestors demanded that Government should take immediate steps in improving power supply and drinking water. Babal Gupta, said the people including shopkeepers and farmers have been facing problems due to non availability of power supply in the town and adjoining areas. They said the power crisis have hampered the business and irrigation facility in the area. “We demand that the unscheduled curtailment of power be stopped immediately”, said Nikki Mahajan, a local resident.
Later, SDM Vijaypur , Ravinder Sharma along with senior officials of PDD arrived at spot and pacified the protesters. He assured that the problem would be resolved at an earliest.
