It is sad that the only rest house of the R&B Department at the pictursqe tourist resort of Dudu is lying in shambles while another one at Latti is still incomplete even after seven years.(DE, July 4, 2016).The Dudu-Basantgarh region is blessed with unparallelled natural beauty.There are dense forests, gurgling rivulets and lush green meadows.Dudu itself is gifted with natural and breathtaking beauty and has a beautiful waterfall.The village of Kirchi located between two gushing streams having crystal clear water presents a stunning view to the visitors.There are high mountains all around .There is vast scope for undertaking activities such as trekking and rafting in this region.The climate of this region is salubrious and energising.
The village Ponara located near the subdivisional headquarters Basantgarh town is abundant with scenic natural beauty which is sure to charm and captivate the visitors.Latti is surrounded by dense forests having tall alpine/deodar trees. Similarly, there is Seoz Dhar which is a vast meadow presenting a panaromic view of other places.Then, there is scope for promotion of religious tourism in Dudu Basantgarh area.There is widely reverred shrine of Vasuki Nag at Dudu, which attracts a large number of devotees from the adjoining places and from other parts of District Udhampur.There is another temple of Vasuki Nag at Shivgali, which is thronged by many people.Only a few days ago, a Mela was held at Shivgali which was attended by a large mumber of people from far and wide.The pictursque spots of Jakhed and Gandh Top also have a huge potential of attracting a large number of tourists and pilgrims as both these captivating spots have temples of Vasuki Nag.But this area needs good road network and upgradation of existing roads to provide good road connectivity to these beautiful places.There is also need to provide view points enroute and accommodation facilities such as tourist huts/ guest houses at Dudu, Basantgarh and other places to attract tourist footfall in large number and thus,generate employment opportunities for local people and improve their socio-economic condition.
