JAMMU, July 10: All India Backward Classes Union (AIBCU) today celebrated birth anniversary of former PM, late VP Singh, under the leadership of Abdul Majid Malik, president of the Union.
Piran Ditta, president, Shri Guru Ravi Dass Sabha, was the guest of honour. All the guests, speakers and participants paid heartfelt tributes to late VP Singh remembering his unforgettable role in providing 27% reservation to the people belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in Government jobs all over the Country.
The speakers recalled how VP Singh implemented the Mandal Report which was earlier got struck by first PM of India, Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru and later dragged in Apex Court, which however upheld the decision of VP Singh and country’s OBCs got 27 % reservation.
“However, it was the bad luck of the OBCs of J&K State that NC Government of the State under the Chief Ministership of Sheikh Mohd Abdullah did not implement the Mandal Report in the State and the State OBCs have been suffering for last 24 years due to partial and prejudice policies of the National Conference”, they said.
The participants said that Congress never respected Dr Ambedkar throughout his stint in the Government and always tried its best to malign his authority. They said that it was only late VP Singh, who highlighted Dr Ambedkar by installing his statue in the Parliament. They further said that VP Singh was the second ‘Misiha’ for SCs, STs and OBCs after Dr BR Ambedkar.
