NEW DELHI: Senior BJP leader Najma Heptulla and G M Siddeshwara today resigned as Ministers of the Union Cabinet, with Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Babul Supriyo being given charge of the Minority Affairs ministry and the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.

According to an official statement from Rashtrapati Bahwan, ”The President, as advised by the Prime Minister, has accepted the resignation of Dr Najma A Heptulla and Mr G M Siddeshwara”.

Further, as advised by the Prime Minister, the President has directed that Mr Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Minister of State for Minority Affairs, shall be assigned the Independent charge of the Ministry of Minority Affairs.

Also, Mr Babul Supriyo, Minister of State shall be relieved of the charge of Minister of State in the Ministry of Urban Development, and Minister of State in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and shall be assigned the portfolio of Minister of State in the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.
