Centre’s intervention proves failure of State Govt in dealing with situation: Cong

SRINAGAR, July 12:  Stating that Centre dealing with the situation proves failure of J&K Government, Congress today alleged that the State’s failure to ensure safety of innocents has led to the loss of dozens of precious lives, besides leaving hundreds injured.
“The losses could have been avoided if State Government had acted early and taken effective measures,” said a joint statement, issued here today by MLC Gulam Nabi Monga, MLA Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, MLA Usman Majeed, MLA Mohd Amin Bhat, MLA Gulzar Ahmad Wani and others.
The Congress   leaders said that as the Centre Govt has now started looking after current situation directly, this is indicative of the failure of the State Government to deal with the situation. “It is surprising that State Government is completely missing in the given circumstances,” they said.
Castigating State Gover-nment for the loss, Congress said that the situation in Valley was beyond the reach of Coalition Government.
Terming PDP-BJP Coalition Govt as a complete failure, Congress leaders blamed the Government for the present crisis. “So far, State Government has only been able to deploy the forces besides imposing curfew and restrictions, but failed to take control of the volatile situation occurred in the backdrop of the protests erupted in South Kashmir and elsewhere in the Valley,” they said.
Reiterating its appeal to people to maintain calm and shun confrontation, Congress leaders urged the authorities dealing with law and order to ensure that no civilian casualties take place as regular incident of firing by forces is escalating anger among the people, which is fraught with dangerous consequences.
