SRINAGAR: A specialised team of surgeons from New Delhi and other parts of the country is being rushed to Kashmir to take care of the people injured in clashes in Kashmir valley, 36 people, including a policeman, have lost their lives in the last four days.
Over 100 youth have been hit by pellets, with majority of them sustaining injuries to their eyes.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti spoke to the Union Health Minister J P Nadda this morning requesting him to send a specialized team of doctors including retina surgeons to Kashmir to take care of the injured who have suffered ophthalmic and other traumas.
“We are expecting these specialized doctors to arrive here today and get down to the job immediately,” a Health Department official said.
He said on the instructions of the Chief Minister, the Government is also facilitating shifting of any injured person outside the state, who needs super-specialized treatment, not available locally.
Meanwhile, National Conference (NC) working president Omar Abdullah today appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to send eye and trauma specialists to the violence-hit valley, where curfew restrictions continued for the fifth day today in Shehar-e-Khas (SeK) and downtown besides parts of civil lines.
”Please don’t let the fact that these youngsters have been injured in protests stop us from giving the best care possible,” Mr Abdullah wrote on micro-blogging site twitter in a series of tweets. Besides 36 dead, several hundreds, including about 150 security force personnel, were also injured in the clashes, of which about 100 youths were hit by pellets.
