Sharda Ashtami celebrated with religious fervour, gaiety

JAMMU, Sept 23:The Sharda Ashtami, which is also called Ganga Ashtami was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety today. In this connection religious functions were held in different temples.
To celebrate Sharda Ashtami a grand function was held at Sanjeevani Sharda Kendra Anand Nagar Bohri near here today which also celebrates the day as its Foundation Day.
The function was presided over by Anand Swami Pran Nath Bhat, Garib “Bhai Ji” and Brig. (retd) Suchet Singh Ji, Prant Sangh Chalak, of RSS was the chief guest.
On the occasion this year’s annual Sharda Puraskar was awarded to T. N. Peshin, a prominent social activist for his social services.
An Introduction of Sharda Shrine (presently in PoK) was given by Upinder Ambardar, an eminent writer and social activist.
Brig Suchet Singh outlined the need of restarting Sharda pilgrimage to the  fabled shrine in PoK. He lambasted  Central Government for not  putting  the matter  with Pakistan despite  the indications given  by them that they  have no hesitation to allow pilgrims from Kashmir  to historic  shrine in  PoK.
B. L. Razdan, who also spoke on the occasion urged the educated youth and to follow the path of Swami Vivekananda.
A Bhajan sequel was performed by renowned singer Shanti Lal Sidh. The programme was compared by Radhay Sham Ji.
A Yagyna was performed on the occasion. After Puran Aahuti Prasad was distributed among large number of devotees.
Another function was held at Sharda Peeth Bantalab by Sharda Mata Trust. On the occasion a Maha Yagya was also performed which started yesterday and culminated with Puranahuti this afternoon. It was followed by serving of prashad to devotees. The Bhajan -Kirtan also continued in the premises of the temple for the entire day a large number of devotees attended the function. The Sharda Peeth Bantalab is the replica of Sharda Peeth of Bandipora.
A Maha Yagya was also solminzed in connection with Sharda Ashtami at Sharda Bhawani temple Ponichak near here. On the occasion a Maha Yagya was also solemnized by the Managing Committee of the Temple under the supervision of its advisor S K Koul, ex Commissioner Sales Tax. A large number of devotees thronged the temple and took prashad after puranaahuti. The Bhajan Kirtan and satsang was also held in the temple.
