NEW DELHI, July 15: J.V. Hluna, who took over as BJP Mizoram State President in January this year, today called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh and discussed a wide range of issues related to the political scenario in the State as well as the organization.
Hluna informed that the BJP Party membership in the State had gone up to around 90,000 for which Dr Jitendra Singh congratulated him and said that this was quite a satisfactory progress in a State with a total population of just about 10 to 11 lakh and where, at one point of time, the BJP membership was very dismal.
Hluna also disclosed that the training programme camps by the Party (Prashikshan Vargs) were already complete in 4 out of the 8 districts of the State, while in other two, they are about to be completed shortly and in the remaining two, they got delayed because of the land slides and rains.
Dr Jitendra Singh told Hluna that during each of his visits to Mizoram, he had insisted upon the State Government as well as the Party Karyakartas to make the best use of the State’s vast unexplored potentials. He said, like every other State of Northeast, Mizoram should also try to earn a unique identity of its own instead of being known simply as one of the North-Eastern States.
In this regard, Dr Jitendra Singh suggested, why can’t Mizoram aspire to become the “Bamboo” State of India, just as another North-Eastern State of Sikkim has achieved the distinction of becoming the first “Organic” State of India. He suggested promoting bamboo for manufacture of furniture, handicrafts and paper industry which will not only earn revenue for the State but also generate employment.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, in order to showcase the exclusive products of North-Eastern States, the Ministry of DoNER had set up the first ever permanent Northeast Stall at “Dilli Haat” and recently also put up an exclusive Northeast Pavilion in the Cottage Emporium of CCIC (Central Cottage Industries Corporation) at Janpath in the heart of Union Capital. In addition, he said, the recent experiment of holding 3-day festival “Destination Northeast” at Pragati Maidan proved to be a great hit and a similar experiment is planned to be replicated in other parts of the country as well.
