SRINAGAR: All means of communication, including mobile internet and Cellular services of all companies remained suspended today, affecting professionals including media, doctors and students.
However, asserting that internet and social media was suspended as it was being used to spread rumours at various places in Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir chief spokesperson and Education Minister Naeem Akhtar yesterday said hopefully if the situation improves in the next one or two days, these services will be restored.
All cellular services, except BSNL, were snapped on July 14, while mobile internet services had already been suspended in Kashmir valley, since protests broke out on July 9 following the killing of top commander of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) Burhan Wani along with two other militants in an encounter with security forces in Kokernag in south Kashmir district of Anantnag.
The cellular service providers were asked to snap their services on July 14 in Kashmir valley, following apprehensions of law and order problems in view of the extension of the protest strike till the day. However, BSNL postpaid mobile phones are working as of now while there was only receiving facility on pre-paid mobile phones.(Agencies)
