KARGIL, July 20: Tourism industry is the backbone of Kargil economy and Hill Council is taking keen interest in boosting this industry by developing more and more tourism infrastructure at all the unexplored tourist destinations.
This was stated by Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil, Haji Mohammad Haneefa Jan while chairing a review meeting of Tourism Department held at Council Secretariat here today.
The Executive Councillor for PWD & Tourism Ghulam Rasool Naqvi, the Executive Councillor for Rural Development Syed Abass Rizvi, the Executive Councillor for Health Mohsin Ali, the Executive Councillor for Handicraft Tsering Angdus and Assistant Director Tourism Kargil Syed Towha Aga were present in the meeting.
During the meeting, Assistant Director Tourism informed the Chairman that record breaking number of tourists have visited despite the ongoing unrest in Kashmir valley.
The CEC said that it was due to the efforts made by the Hill Council that record number of tourists have visited Kargil. It was decided that the Kargil Festival which was scheduled to be organized on July 23, 2016 will be postponed in view of the prevailing situation in Kashmir valley.
Further, it was also decided to organize the Fame Tour which was proposed to be organized by the LAHDC in the month of July for promoting the tourism sector of district after August 15.
Haji Haneefa Jan asked the Tourism Department to intensify efforts to complete and handover the tourism related infrastructure as early as possible. In the meeting, it was decided that a review meeting will be held shortly for finalizing the dates for Kargil Festival, Fame Tour and Apricot Festival with the concerned Head of the Departments.
