JAMMU, July 29: The employees of Public Sector banks observed total strike across the State today.
The protest was part of country wide protest programme of the Public Sector bank employees. The call for the strike was given by United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) and was joined by all the officers and workers of Public Sector banks in the country.
The public had to suffer as all the branches and other sub units of the banks remained closed in view of strike. To agitate in support of their demands, officers and other employees of the State Bank of India (SBI) in Jammu organised a massive demonstration at Administrative office of SBI at Rail Head complex, here. A large number of employees of the Bank attended the protest program.
Several trade unionists including Suresh Wali, deputy general secretary, of SBI Officers’ Association and Sham Lal Hans deputy general secretary SBI Staff Association addressed the gathering. They said that Govt schemes aimed at uplifting the poor and the deprived section of the society were implemented through Public Sector banks and the contribution of private sector banks was minimal.
They pointed out that much talked about policies of the Govt aimed at bringing about social justice and alround development will be fortified by such moves. If the Govt goes ahead with the move of privatizing PSBs, huge resources in the shape of public deposits will unethically be placed at the disposal of a previledged few. They expressed employees resolve to fight against such anti-employee and anti-poor moves of the Govt.
