NEW DELHI, Aug 1: Recently elected Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly, Ranjeet Kumar Das, currently on his first visit to union capital after taking over the new assignment, today called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh and discussed a wide range of issues including the flood situation in Assam and various developmental projects under the Ministry of DoNER.
Ranjeet Kumar Das lauded the prompt response of the Central Government which has helped in containing the devastation caused by the floods. He said, the people of the State felt highly reassured by the visit of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Union DoNER Minister Dr Jitendra Singh to the flood affected districts of the State, as well as to the Relief Camps set up for the flood victims. He said, all the Ministers in the State Government and the MLAs of the ruling party were working day and night to mitigate the sufferings of the people affected by these floods.
Das also brought to the notice of Dr Jitendra Singh the project relating to the construction of a two – lane Railway Over-bridge in Barpeta district under Non-lapsable (NLCPR) funds of the Ministry of DoNER. He informed the Minister that a DPR (Detailed Project Report) had already been sent by the Government of Assam and he was personally following up the matter since he happened to be an elected MLA from the same constituency.
Dr Jitendra Singh assured Ranjeet Kumar Das of every possible help and support from the Ministry of DoNER as well as Government of India. He said, the Prime Minister himself personally keeps a follow-up of the various development activities in the region. About the construction of Railway Over-bridge at Barpeta, he said, he will issue instructions for expediting the project.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the Disaster Management Agencies had sent special teams for rescue operations and added that, in future also, there will be no dearth of cooperation from the Centre.
