Nayak inspects SM Farm Chakrohi, reviews STF, SBRC projects

JAMMU, Aug 5: Principal Secretary Agriculture Production Department, Sandeep Kumar Nayak today inspected the Seed Multiplication Farm Chakrohi which is spread over an area of 836 acres along the Indo-Pak Border.
He reviewed the up-gradation works of the farm being done in respect of infrastructure related to land development, farm mechanization, drainage, irrigation channels, tube-wells, electricity supply, office & residential buildings and internal roads under Special Task Force (STF) recommended Project. Quality production of Foundation and Certified Seed of Basmati varieties and that of other crops like mustard, wheat, toria and peas which are in the Basmati Rice rotation is also being undertaken at the Farm.
Director Agriculture, Jammu, Sudesh Koul apprised the Principal Secretary that the Project is envisaged to improve water use efficiency, seed crop productivity and seed production at the farm by adopting improved farm machinery and crop production techniques. So far, an amount of Rs 2335.35 lakh has been utilized under the Project with the result that area under crops as well as irrigated area has increased over the years.
During current Kharif-2016 season an area of 297 acres has been covered which include 250 acres under Basmati-370 (Foundation Seed), 20 acres under Paddy variety Basmati-370, 16 acres under the variety SJR-5, 2 acres under Basmati-564 variety (All Breeder Seeds).  Besides, 9 acres have been brought under seed production of Mash and Moong.
Dr JP Sharma, Director Research, SKUAST, Jammu also briefed the Principal Secretary about their activities at their Seed Multiplication Farm.
Later Principal Secretary, APD also inspected the demonstration of organic practices including use of Bio-fertilizers, Bio-pesticides and Green Manuring at Korotona Basti, Korotona Khurd, Suchetgarh, Bidipur Jattan villages under Suchetgarh Basmati Rice Cluster (SBRC) Project.
Nayak also inspected the paddy basmati crop raised for seed production under the project. He also had a detailed interaction with the farmers at different places of RS Pura and Suchetgarh areas.
AK Malhotra, Joint Director Agriculture (Extension), CM Sharma, Deputy Director Central, Jammu, Matinder Singh, Area Development Officer, Jammu, BB Sidha, Dy Project Director, ATMA, Farooq Ahmad, SDAO, RS Pura, Jagmohan Bhat, SMS and DD Bhagat, AEO, RS Pura were also present on the occasion.
