SRINAGAR, Aug 5: Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today hit out at the Centre for claiming that the situation in the Valley was improving amidst killing of a person during fresh clashes that left several others injured.
“1 (one) more unfortunate death, countless injuries today & Centre tells the Hon SC (Supreme Court) that ‘things are improving’. Wow!” Omar wrote on twitter.
In another tweet, the National Conference working president said it was only the ruling coalition partners — PDP and BJP — who agreed with this stand.
“Seriously? By which stretch of imagination? I haven’t met anyone in the valley except the BJP-PDP ostriches who agree!” he said.
The Centre today told the Supreme Court that law and order situation in Kashmir Valley has improved considerably since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani with violent protests having gone down from 201 on July 9 to 11 on August 3.
One person was killed and several others injured in security forces action during fresh clashes with protestors in Chadoora area of Budgam district today.
Police reports, however, later in the day stated that three persons were killed and over 150 injured in the clashes at several places after Friday prayers, raising the death toll during the current unrest to 53.
