Militant killed

SRINAGAR, Aug 6: One militant was killed along the Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir’s Nowgam sector today as Army foiled an infiltration bid by a group of infiltrators.
A Defence spokesman said here that one infiltrator was killed in Nowgam sector of North Kashmir today and huge cache of arms, ammunition and war like stores were recovered during searches.
Sources said that a group of infiltrators were spotted near the LoC fence at Danish Post by 18 JAT of Army in Nowgam sector early today.
Army challenged the infiltrating militant group and they opened fire on the troops leading to a gun battle in which one militant was shot dead by the Army.
Sources said that other members of the group may have fled back to the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) but they don’t want to take chances and have continued the search operation in the area.
This is the fourth infiltration bid that was foiled by the army in Nowgam sector during last fortnight. On August 1, Army foiled an infiltration bid and killed one militant. Another bid was foiled on July 30 when Army intercepted a group of 5-6 infiltrators at Lakshmir Post in Tungwalibak in Nowgam sector and two soldiers, identified as Sepoy Babloo Singh, 29, of village Jandipur, Mathura of UP and Sepoy Vishal Chaudhary, 30, of village Ronda, Bullandshahar of UP, were killed and Naik Bijendra Singh was injured. The Army also killed two militants and recovered two AK rifles, one UBGL, wire cutters, water proof clothing, dry fruit, energy drinks and Pakistan manufactured medicines.
Four militants were killed and one was apprehended in an anti-infiltration operation on July 26 in Nowgam area.
