Trade unions to observe country wide strike on Sept 2

JAMMU, Aug 9: All the trade unions of the State, under the banner of CITU, today resolved to observe general strike on September 2, 2016 as declared by the All India Trade Unions.
A joint convention of J&K State Unions affiliated with Central Trade Unions was held at Green Belt Park, Gandhi Nagar Jammu today. It was attended by workers of organized and unorganized sectors and representatives of all the trade unions as well as the independent trade bodies from PSUs.
The convention unanimously resolved to participate to the countrywide general strike on Sep 2, 2016 jointly called by the Central Trade Unions and National Industrial Federations on 12 points charter of demands on the most burning issues confronting the working class.
The convention noted that NDA Government is desperately moving ahead for mega strategic sale of huge national assets of PSUs, anti- working class labour reforms, unrelenting rise in the prices of all essential commodities, adoption of widespread contractual system, dismantling existing social security systems like PF and ESI, ignoring social security aspects and pension to scheme workers like ASHA, Anganwari, Mid Day Meal etc. and unorganized workers; non- implementation of labour laws and weakening law enforcement machinery. Agriculture is also continuing to be in crisis. Apart from the attack of privatization the Govt has decided to allow FDI in almost all key sectors, telecom, civil aviation, satellites, construction, insurance, pension funds, PSU banking, railway operations and maintenance, multi brand retail Pharmaceuticals and so on. All these creating miserable impact on the lives and livelihood of the toiling people, both in the cities and the villages,
Prominent among those who addressed gathering included Pawan Gupta, president NZIEA, Kishore Kumar State president Kissan Tehrik, Jagdish Sharma, State secretary of CITU, Raj Kumar gen secretary Construction Workers Union (J&K), Rashpal Singh & Jiwan Singh senior INTUC leaders, Mahesh Sharma and Balkar Singh from AITUC, Sunita Bhagat president ASHA Workers Union-Jammu, Kailash Nayak, gen secretary,Railway Loading & Unloading Workers Union; Jeet Raj, president, Nirman Mazdoor Union – Jammu, Bawa Ram Industrial Estate Workers Union, Ashok Kumar, Hindustan Coca Cola Workers Union. Rattan Verma, president Salal Workers & Staff Union and Muzaffer Wani president National Highway Workers Union.
