New Medical Colleges

Very encouraging news is that the Government is opening five new Medical Colleges in five towns of the State which will have the capacity of admitting 100 students each college. It means annually there will be turnout of 500 new medical graduates in the State besides those who are going through study and training in the existing Medical Colleges. The five towns that will have the bonanza of Medical Colleges are Baramulla, Anantnag, Rajouri, Doda and Kathua. The opening of these five Medical College means introducing a new chapter in the history of the State.  Imagine how medical education is brought to the door steps of boys and girls in the far flung areas of the State. The Central Government has already released 20 crore rupees in each case and foundation stones of two of the five Medical Colleges have already been laid. The Chief Minister has seen the blue prints of the campuses of these colleges and emphasized that the completing of the colleges should be ensured within the stipulated time.
It is really a red letter day in the history of the State and one should look at this big effort of the Government with futuristic view. There was a time when in big towns like Anantnag and Baramulla there existed the district hospital which was no better than a small insignificant dispensary and hardly any good treatment would be received by the patients. Now these district hospitals have grown into full fledged hospitals and after the Medical Colleges are incepted, these hospitals will become the hub of medical education. Students of these districts have no need now to seek admission in Jammu or Srinagar Medical Colleges.
We highly appreciate the effort of the Government in this area and hope that the colleges will come up within the stipulated time. This is also the expectation of the Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues.
