Independence Day celebrated with enthusiasm, zeal

JAMMU, Aug 14: The 70th Independence Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and zeal.
Army celebrated 70th Independence Day at Pine Wood School Hamirpur in Poonch District on the theme “Development through Joint Effort”. The event captured the various development initiatives undertaken in the border villages along the Line of Control and connects with people of Balakote block. Senior army officials, civil administration officials from various Government departments, veterans and hundreds of people took part in the programme. The children from local schools showcased a vibrant culture programme. Career counseling for young boys and girls of Class 12th was a popular draw. A medical camp with lady doctor from the Army was also part of the event. A number of local civilians employed by the Army were honoured for their dedication and devotion. A compensation of Rs 5,84,191 was paid to Mohd Bashir, son of Late Gulab Din of Village Goladh, Tehsil Mendhar, District Poonch for mine blast injury. Assistant Commissioner Poonch was also present on the occasion.
Lam Battalion of the Army organised a band display at Laroka School on the occasion of Independence Day celebrations. The programme was attended by people from the village of Lam, Laroka, Pukharni and Qila Darhal. The spectators were enthralled by the display which was synchronised and orchestrated with clockwork precision. The event turned out to be a huge success. Lam Battalion is a 130 year old Battalion with rich traditions and customs. The Battalion takes pride in its elite pipe band with has won laurels across the country during the last 130 years. The event organised to showcased to the unique traditions of the Army to the people and promote goodwill.
The youth wing of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) celebrated Independence Day at Jammu by hoisting the National Flag under the leadership of State Youth President Er Rishi Kaul Kilam. TK Koul, Vijay Kumar, Amit Bhagat, Atul, Ajay, Abhimanyu Pratap Singh, Sandeep Manhas, Sajjad Ali, Rahul Mangeshkar and Rakesh Kumar were also present.
70th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour and zeal by Dogri Sanstha Jammu. A special Kavi Sammelan was organized on this occasion wherein participating poets recited their poems, ghazals and songs on various themes including national integration, independence, human values and prevailing situation of society. The function was presided over by Maj Gen (Retd) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal and Prof Lalit Magotra, Convenor, Dogri Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi was chief guest. The participating poets included Gianeshwar Sharma, Nirmal Vinod, Susheel Begana, MS Kamra, Ashok Khajuria, KK Shakir, Maharaj Krishan, Randhir Singh Raipuria, Girdhari Lal Rahi, Abdul Qadir Kundaria, Keerti Salathia and Shyam Bihari. Prof Baldev Singh, Chaman Arora, Ravi Shankaer, Pawan Kumar and Lajja Manhas were also present on the occasion.
70th Independence Day was celebrated by Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association. Deputy Chairman of the Association Capt Kamal Chand Motan hoisted the National Flag and took the salute. Motan inculcated the nationalism in the enthusiastic community members by highlighting the supreme sacrifices made by Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru while safeguarding the honour of their motherland. On the occasion, Association members paid tributes to Indo-Pak War Hero Lance Naik Mohan Lal Lakhotra. Association members also paid tributes to community’s other brave heart Havaldar Chuni Lal Motan, a soldier of 55 Rashtriya Rifles (Grenadiers) who was killed on December 4, 2007 in a militant flush out operation in Kashmir’s Pulwama Sector. RL Kaith, Capt Om Parkash Tugga, Sub Maj Romesh Sargotra, Sub Maj Tilak Raj Motan, Hav Des Raj Kaith, Hav Uttam Chand Sandhu, Naib Sarpanch Ram Lal Lakhotra, Hans Raj Bahadur, Mela Ram Tugga, besides many others were present on the occasion.
Springdales Higher Secondary School celebrated Independence Day at its Krishna Nagar and Lower Muthi branches. Chairman of the school VK Malhotra unfurled the National Flag in Krishna Nagar branch and threw light on the importance of the day. The students presented colourful cultural items. In Muthi branch, the National Flag was hoisted by Principal Seema Gupta.
ASN Higher Secondary School, Resham Ghar Colony and Channi Himmat celebrated Independence Day. An Inter-House Painting Competition was organized at Channi Himmat branch in collaboration with DHFL Pramerica Company. Nagender Singh Jamwal, Deputy Excise Commissioner Jammu was the chief guest, Ajay Nanda, North India Head of the Company was the guest of honour. Ritesh Kapoor, Administrator of the school presented the welcome address. A cultural programme was presented by students at Resham Ghar Colony branch wherein PB Kapoor, Principal of the school was the chief guest.
