SRINAGAR: Appealing to people for peace and calm in the Kashmir valley, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Dalbir Singh today discussed overall security situation in the State, particularly on the Line of Control (LoC) where troops successfully foiled infiltration attempts and killed ten militants during the past one month.

He impressed upon everyone to uphold human rights and exercise maximum possible restraint while dealing with the protesting mobs. He also made an earnest appeal to the people to eschew violence and help restore peace and calm at the earliest.

Gen Singh was also given a detailed brief by field commanders about the prevailing situation in the valley, where life remained crippled for the past 46th consecutive day today due to curfew and restrictions imposed by authorities and strike, called by separatists against the killing of 67 people and injuries to over 5500 others in security force firing since July 9, a day after the death of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani and two others militants in Anantnag.
