UDHAMPUR, Aug 16: Latti Development Committee of Sub Division Dudu in district Udhampur, has urged upon the State authorities to extend the jurisdiction of Police Station of Latti and also set up Munsiff Court at this Tehsil headquarters.
Members of the Committee from Latti- Dhoona and Marothi area appealed to the State Law Minister and the Chief Justice of J&K High Court to set up a Munsiff Court at Latti as even today the people from this area have to go to Ramnagar for even getting a simple bail after covering a distance of over 125 kms. They said even another court at Chenani tehsil headquarters is hardly 50 kms where an old court exists but Latti area has still been kept with the Ramnagar Tehsil which is highly unjustified and unfair on the part of State authorities.
They pointed out that Udhampur court is also more closer than Ramnagar, just half of the distance of Ramnagar. The public transport is hardly available on Latti – Dudu- Majouri and Ramnagar route. The people are bound to take the Chenani route. Moreover, Latti Tehsil is consists of nine Panchyats and over 40,000 population. They demanded that a Munsiff Court be set up at Latti which is an old demand of the people of this area and till the court is set up there, the jurisdiction of Latti be shifted to Chenani court.
They further said that Jurisdiction of Latti Police Station is hardly up to Marothi, which is 6 kms from the Latti town on Sudh Mahadev- Chenani road. The people of Marothi outskirts and ahead of that for any minor work at Police Station, are forced to go to Chenani Thana, which is about 44 kms away from Latti Thana while Lati town is more closer, hardly 7 to 10 kms for them. They demanded that keeping in view the sufferings of the people , the jurisdiction of Latti Thana be extended up to at least Man Talai, if not Sudh Mahadev.
