JAMMU, Aug 27: Additional general secretary of J&K National Conference and younger brother of Dr Farooq Abdullah, Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal today pleaded for the restoration of greater autonomy to the J&K State as existed in 1953.
In a press statement here today, Dr Kamaal, a former Minister alleged that successive Indian Governments have not only betrayed the people of J&K where truth has become a casualty but has also done incalculable harm to their honour and dignity. He said that New Delhi must win the hearts of people and redouble efforts to make up for the trust deficit between J&K and New Delhi. “Restoration of greater autonomy as existed in 1953 could be a big step in that direction,” Dr Kamaal maintained.
The NC leader further pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi says solution within the constitution of the country has to be worked out with all stake holders. He claimed that the biggest stake holder is the constitution of J&K itself and its link up with the Indian Constitution’s Article 370 along with the Delhi agreement of 1952. “This fraud committed by the successive Governments in Delhi on democracy has to be undone first,” Kamaal said.
Dr Kamaal said after the second visit of the Home Minister Rajnath Singh to Srinagar instead of any easing in the situation, police force has been fanned out throughout the Valley to strike terror. BSF has returned to streets, lanes and by-lanes of Srinagar after a gap of twelve years. The situation has further deteriorated in Valley.
NC leader opined that the happy ending of the unresolved Kashmir problem with Pakistan could be possible by amicably taking J&K as a bridge of peace and friendship between the two in the overall national interests and Regional and world peace. He said Gandhi ji’s legacy of truth and non- violence needs to be revived.
