UDHAMPUR, Aug 27: Strange it may sound, but it is true that ACD Udhampur has asked the officer to hold inquiry against his own staff members, against whom another member from the same office tendered resignation after raising serious allegations of corruption and mal-practices there.
One Ravinder Singh, resident of Chore Panjian village, working as Gram Rozgar Sevak (GRS) in Khoon block of Majalta tehsil in district Udhampur raised serious allegations of corruption, malpractices including signing of bogus and fraudulent bills, drawal of money by generating fake documents etc, against a VLW/ Panchayat Secretary and Junior Engineer of his office. The GRS tendered his resignation before the ACD Udhampur and Director Rural Development , Jammu underlining the reason. The GRS alleged that he was being harassed and made to sign bogus/ fictitious bills/ documents by some senior staff members and was unable to work under such circumstances.
On the directions of Director RDD Jammu, Pardeep Kumar, ACD Udhampur Joginder Singh ordered probe. Interesting, the ACD asked District Panchayat Officer Udhampur, Sandeep Sanotra, who is holding the additional charge as BDO of the same office where these frauds have been allegedly committed, to hold inquiry. The ACD when contacted said that he has asked the inquiry committee led by DPO Sandeep Sanotra to submit report within 15 days. He avoided to give clear reason of nominating Sandeep as inquiry officer.
Director, RDD Jammu Mr Padreep when asked how an officer was allowed to hold inquiry against his own staff members and was it not unfair practice, the director said since the charges are against the junior employees of the office, there is no problem to hold the inquiry by the concerned BDO as there are no such charges against that officer. Moreover, GRS is a contractual employee and he can be terminated at any stage if his work is not satisfactory. Minister for RDD, Abdul Hag Khan could not be contacted for his comments on the matter.
