4th Women Science Congress begins at GCW Gandhi Nagar

JAMMU, Sept 1: 4th J&K Women Science Congress was inaugurated today at Government  College for Women Gandhi Nagar Jammu. The three-day event is being organized  in collaboration with J&K Science Technology and Innovation Council, Department of Science and Technology, J&K.
During the inaugural function,   Prof. Poonam Dhawan, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu, was the chief guest, Dr  B A Zargar, Department of Mathematics, JU,  was guest of honour whereas Prof  Vibha Tandon, Chairperson, Special Centre for Molecular Medicine, Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU), New-Delhi,  was the key note speaker.
Dr Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the college and patron of the Congress, in her welcome address, said that  young students will get inspired by their mentors and will reach at the pinnacle of their glory.
Dr Anupama Gupta, organizing secretary of the Science Congress,  highlighted the contribution of women who set the landmarks in their respective fields and presented a detail report of the event.
Prof Poonam Dhawan  said that in present time women are not less than men but their representations in science has to be encouraged by motivating and guiding  young students to pursue Science and Technology based courses. She also released directory of young women scientists and abstract book of the participants.
Prof  Vibha Tandon,  in her presentation on focal theme “Women in Science : Challenges and opportunities”,  motivated the girls to opt it as a profession.
An  exhibition of models,  made by school and college students on the basic concepts of science, was also inaugurated. Plenary Session, guest lectures, oral presentations and Poster Presentation will take place in different technical sessions during three consecutive days.  A large no. of students, scholars in and around the State participated in the event.
Prof  Amitpal Kour presented formal vote of thanks and programme was coordinated by students of the college.
