NEW DELHI: The Centre today said the situation in Kashmir was slowly returning to normalcy and hoped that Eid-ul-Zuha festival tomorrow would pass off peaceful in the valley.

“Situation in Kashmir is gradually returning to normalcy and we hope that Eid-ul-Zuha will pass off peaceful,” Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi told reporters here.

Mehrishi’s comment came amidst the Jammu and Kashmir Government’s decision to impose “curfew-like” restrictions to prevent any outbreak of violence during Eid.

The decision to impose restrictions on assembly of large number of people has been taken in view of the call by separatists for a march to the local offices of the United Nations tomorrow.

Unrest in Kashmir Valley has been continuing ever since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani on July 8.

The deadly violence has left 76 people, including two police personnel, dead and more than 10,000 others injured. (AGENCIES)
