JAMMU, Sept 12: The drivers of various goods carriers including trucks and Tata 407 vehicles today went on strike and held strong protest against the attacks on them by the miscreants in Kashmir valley and also snatching of their cash.
A large number of drivers of goods carriers staged protest after some of the truck operators were allegedly attacked by stone pelters in the Kashmir valley. This is happening for the last several weeks and more than one hundred trucks said to have been damaged by the miscreants during this period in Kashmir. They have warned to stop the supplies to Kashmir indefinitely.
Carrying banners and placards in their hands, the protesters shouted slogans against the Government asserting that the authorities have failed in providing them security. They moved in the shape of a protest rally from Transport Nagar to Bikram Chowk near main Tawi bridge.
The protesters have refused and suspended to carry goods to the Valley in view of the unrest and attacks on the drivers. They alleged that in many cases the drivers were severely beaten up, their vehicles damaged and even cash was snatched. They asked the Government either to provide security cover to them otherwise, they will stop operation in Kashmir. With this supplies to Ladakh will also be affected.
The protesters further demanded compensation for the injured drivers and damaged vehicles.
The petrol tanker drivers/ operators have also warned to stop supplies to the Kashnir valley after fresh attacks.
A large number of drivers were allegedly beaten up and tankers damaged by miscreants in the Valley during last several weeks.
