Srinagar, Sept 8:As the curfew like restrictions continued in parts of Srinagar, scores of protesters were injured in security forces firing across Valley amid shutdown that paralysed life for 62nd day today.
The areas falling under five Police Stations of Old City including MR Gunj, Khanyar, Safa Kadal and Nowhatta continued to be under restrictions. Hundreds of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were deployed in these areas. Security forces had closed roads and bridges with barbed wire at many places. Security forces were also deployed in other sensitive areas of the city including Maisuma and Habba Kadal.
The shops, business establishments, educational institutes and petrol pumps were closed in Srinagar and public transport was off the roads. However, private vehicles were seen plying in uptown and civil lines areas. In the evening, however, shops opened leading to traffic jams.
The train services between Banihal and Baramulla remained disrupted while mobile internet and pre-paid mobile services continued to remain suspended for 62ndday today.
In South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, scores of protesters were injured when police and security forces attempted foiled a protest rally at Batnoor-Lassipora. Reports said that the clashes erupted at Prichal, Lassipora, Tahab, Tantraypora and Hatmulla. Police fired teargas and pellets but protesters retaliated by restoring to heavy stone-pelting.
In Tral, four persons were injured when security forces conducted a raid at Dadsara to arrest stone-throwers. The locals however foiled the security forces attempt by stone-pelting, resulting in clashes in the area. Police fired teargas to disperse them.
The clashes also erupted at Kellar area of Shopian district in which 17 persons were injured. Reports said that forces resorted to pellet firing and teargas shelling on protesters. One injured was shifted to Srinagar for treatment while others were treated in local hospital. The clashes also erupted at Ramnagri in Shopian.
The clashes were also reported from Nasrullahpora and Panzan areas of central Kashmir’s Budgam district. The clashes in these areas erupted following a protest rally. In Palpora area of Srinagar, a protest rally was held by locals.
The stone-pelting clashes erupted between protesters and security forces at Hillar area of Kokernag in Anantnag district. The clashes also erupted at Hajin in Bandipora area of North Kashmir and protests were held by locals at Ajas against arrest of a man.
A police official said that the situation across Kashmir remained peaceful today and there were isolated incidents of stone-pelting in few areas and rest was normal.
