SRIHARIKOTA, Sept 8: In its first operational flight and powered by the indigenous Cryogenic Upper Stage (CUS), GSLV-F05 carrying the 2,211 kg advanced weather satellite INSAT-3DR, lifted off from the SHAR Range at 1650 hrs today.
The launch, which was earlier scheduled at 1610 hrs, was res-scheduled at 1650 hrs after a anomaly was noticed during the filling of fuel in the cryogenic upper stage.
After a 29-hour countdown, the 49.1 m tall GSLV vehicle, with a lift off mass of 415.2 tons, lifted off majestically from the Second Launch Pad, with a rumble that shook the earth.
Scientists at the Mission Control Centre at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SSDSC), were watching the flight sequence with bated breath.
A host of scientists from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), including its Chairman A S Kiran Kumar were present. (UNI)
