JAMMU Sept 8: National Conference expressed deep anguish and concern over continued sufferings of people in Kashmir, saying denial in dealing with the situation through a political approach could have serious ramifications on peace and stability of the State.
The unrest in the Valley has laid its impact in the entire State and there is urgent need for addressing the political issues by involving all stakeholders, senior vice president Surjeet Singh Slathia and former Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra emphasised while leading the party leaders and workers in paying tribute to towering leader Late Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah on his 34th death anniversary at NC Bhavan here this morning.
Mr Slathia prayed for early peace and normalcy in the Valley, saying the colossal loss of human lives and injuries to thousands has pained the peace loving people of the entire State.
Paying tributes to Late Abdullah, Mr Slathia said that commitment of the towering leader of the sub-continent to secular ethos of Jammu and Kashmir will continue to inspire generations. He called for strengthening this spirit, as inimical forces were bent upon to divide the people for their vested interest.
“The best tribute to Sher-e-Kashmir will be to strengthen Hindu, Muslim, Sikh amity,” senior party leader Ajay Kumar Sadhotra said while paying homage to Late Abdullah.
Mr Sadhotra recalled how Sher-e-Kashmir stood like a rock to preserve the distinct secular character of the State when it was at peril during the most testing time of the history. The former Minister said NC has inherited this legacy and is committed to bequeath it to posterity by setting an example of fighting the communal elements tooth and nail.
Former Minister and State vice president Syed Mushtaq Bukhari, while paying tributes to Sheikh Abdullah recalled the great role played by Sher-e-Kashmir during most turbulent periods by keeping the flag of Hindu, Muslim, Sikh unity atop.
State vice president Rattan Lal Gupta, former Minister Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardy, senior leaders Dharamveer Singh Jamwal & Satpal Lakhotra, Provincial president Women Wing Satwant Kour Dogra and Ex-MLA Bimla Luthra also paid floral tributes to the towering leader.
Earlier, senior leaders and NC workers paid floral tributes to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and pledged to work for steering Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh as peaceful, progressive and a politically stable State.
Prominent among those present included former legislators- Vijay Bakaya, Farooq Abdullah, Qazi Jalal- ud- Din & Deepinder Kour; Jugal Mahajan, Haroon, Anil Dhar, Abdul Ghani teli, Vijay Lochan, Mohinder Singh, Pardeep Bali, Nar Singh, S S Bunty, Rashida Begum, Veena Oberai, Dilshad Malik, Daljeet Sharma, SS Bunty, Farooq Mughal, Aman Chemma, Asha Mehra, Kuldeep Kour and Komal Manhas.
Mendhar unit of National Conference led by MLA Javed Rana also paid rich tributes to Sheikh Mohd Abdullah in a function held today. The speakers recalled the contributions of towering leader and paid homage to him.
Udhampur unit of NC led by its president, Sunil Verma also paid floral tributes to Late Sheikh Mohd Abdullah on his 34th death anniversary. The district unit office bearers and party workers from the NC including Master Moti Ram, Ch Mohd Shafi, Ram Parshotam, Geeta Handoo, Madhu Verma, Shobha Ram Balotra and others were present on the occasion.
National Conference, Leh unit also commemorated 34th death anniversary of its founder Late Sheikh Mohd Abdullah. District president Sonam Wangdus Lachumir presided over while Tsetan Namgial former minister, P Wangdan, Nazir Khan, Thinless Bhoto, C Wangchuk and others were also present. They recalled the contributions of Late Abdullah. Two minute silence was observed to pay homage to the leader.
Tributes were also paid to Sheikh Abdullah on his 34th death anniversary at all the district and block units of National Conference in the region.
