Workshop on ‘Role of NSS in Career Building’ organized at JU

JAMMU, Sept 15:  NSS Campus Units, University of Jammu,   today organized one day workshop on the “Role of NSS in Career Building” for PG Distance Learners and NSS volunteers from the various teaching departments of the University.
Around two hundred volunteers participated in the workshop, the objective of which was to motivate volunteers, especially distance learners to involve themselves in community reach out activities and also how NSS helps students in better preparation for career development.
On the occasion, five NSS volunteers, who had excelled in academics and clicked in professional life, were honoured.  Prof Dhian Singh, Director, DDE was the chief guest on the occasion. He called upon the volunteers to balance between studies and community work for holistic personality development. Prof Jasbir Singh, Chairperson NSS Campus Units, acquainted the guests and participants with the objectives of the workshop.
A book “Communication in English” written by Abhimanyu Dev Singh Billawaria, was released on the occasion. Dr Anju Thappa, NSS PO, DDE, compared the programme and Dr Anupama Vohra, Associate Dean (SW) presented vote of thanks. Senior faculty DDE, NSS POs of Jammu University were present at the inaugural function.
Abhimanyu Dev Singh Billawaria was the speaker in the first session and he told the volunteers the necessity of acquire soft skills for effective career building.
In the other sessions, Prof Jasbir Singh familiarized the volunteers with the objectives of NSS and their relevance in the present context,   Pradeep Dutta from “Times Now” highlighted the career options for youth in media, Monica Jamwal shared her academic experiences in DDE, Dr Sham Narayan talked about the history of Jammu and Kashmir State.
In the panel discussion Rabia Iqbal Mir showed her learning experiences as well as how NSS contributed in helping her to prepare for her job interviews.  Sandeep Bhat from Kotak Mahindra Bank, Vaneet Pandit from Government sector and  Summet Sharma from Health Department shared their experiences of how NSS shaped their personality and outlook towards life and how it helped them to establish themselves in their respective professions.
