Comm Min forms task force to improve innovation ecosystem

NEW DELHI, Sept 16:  The Commerce and Industry Ministry today set up an eight-member task force, which includes people from both private and public sectors, to assess India’s position as an innovative country and suggest measures to enhance the innovation ecosystem.
Members from private sector include Naushad Forbes (Co- Chairman, Forbes Marshall Group; President, CII); Anil Wali (MD, FITT, IIT Delhi); Gopichand Katragadda of TATA Sons; Kris Gopalakrishnan (Executive VC, Infosys); Nikolai Dobberstein of AT Kearney Ltd and Rajeev Srinivasan (Adjunct Faculty, Innovation IIM-B).
Besides, a representative is there from the Department of Science and Technology and the convenor of the task force is Rajiv Aggarwal, Joint Secretary in the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP).
“The task force will assess India’s position as an innovative country and suggest measures to enhance the innovation ecosystem in India and thus improve India’s ranking in the Global Innovation Index (GII),” the ministry said in a statement.
India’s ranking in GII-2016 jumped 15 places to 66th.
DIPP and Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM ) invite ideas and suggestions from the public. They may also hold discussions with some of these contributors. (PTI)
