JAMMU, Sept 19: There seems no end to the woes of patients in Super Speciality Hospital (SSH), Jammu, where even on 5th day of the strike of Need Based Workers of Mechanical Division of Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, administration failed to ensure functioning of RO plant, AC plants and lifts.
Though, the administration of Super Speciality Hospital (SSH), Jammu today claimed to have restored all essential services but according to reliable sources in the hospital, the AC plant of the hospital is only partially functioning, RO plant remained shut today also and out of the five lifts only one is functioning while others are lying defunct.
According to the sources, Commissioner Secretary, Health and Medical Education, MK Bhandari, today sought status of all essential services in SSH Jammu from the administration of Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, in the light of news on SSH Jammu published in today’s edition of EXCELSIOR.
“But what is shocking that the report submitted to Mr Bhandari by the GMC authorities was either partially true or totally false”, the sources said, adding, the report submitted to Mr Bhandari says that all essential services in SSH except RO plant have been restored but the ground situation is different, as out of three AC Plants only one is functioning and out of the five lifts, only one is functional while four others are lying defunct since a long time.
Elaborating more, sources said that there are three AC plants of 225 ton each in SSH but only one is functioning while two others are having some technical fault. They further disclosed that out of the five lifts, only one is functional while four others are lying defunct since a long time due to technical fault, as the AMC/CAMC of, lifts as well as AC plants are pending for last two years due to non-release of funds by GMC authorities.
Though Medical Superintendent, SSH Jammu, Dr AD Singh, today claimed to have made functional the RO plant, but according to the sources there is no technician to handle the RO plant which is a skilled job. “However, the engineers of the Delhi-based company which has installed the RO plant, have been requested by the SSH authorities to visit for a day or two in the hospital and train one of the NO so that the RO plant can be run smoothly without any hindrance”, sources further disclosed.
They said on 5th consecutive day today, neither any dialysis nor any surgery could be conducted in the hospital, as the only AC plant which is running, could not cool the Operation Theatres. The patients admitted in various wards were also seen using table fans (purchased from the market by them) to get some relief from the hot and humid weather.
This correspondent made several attempts to contact Commissioner Secretary, Health and Medical Education to know about the steps being taken by his office to defuse the present crisis in SSH, but the latter did not respond.
