Girl killed in road mishap

KATHUA, Sept 19: A young girl was killed after the driver of the bus in which she was traveling from Kathua did not apply the brake when she tried to alight from the  bus at Dayala Chak this afternoon.
According to police, the superfast bus bearing registration number JK02BD-4381 was on its way from Kathua to Jammu this afternoon. After reaching Dayala Chak, Karuna a female passenger daughter of Kewal Krishan of Sangral Samba who was in her teens asked the driver to stop the vehicle as her stop had reached. The girl came near the door and tried to alight from the bus, but the driver did not apply the brake and the bus continued to move with the result she fell down on the road and received a grievous head injury. The driver ran away. However, the bus was seized by the police. The girl was shifted to District Hospital Kathua where from doctors referred her to GMC &H Jammu for specialized treatment. However, the girl failed to respond to the treatment and succumbed to her injuries in GMC&H. Her body has been kept in GMC mortuary and it will be handed over to her parents tomorrow after postmortem.
The police has registered a case under Section 237-304 and started a manhunt for the driver.
