JAMMU, Sept 19: The relatives of Madhu Sharma who died in mysterious circumstances at her inlaws house on September 4 this year alleged that she was burnt alive by her husband, father & mother in law.
Talking to reporters here today, they said she was married to Rakesh Sharma on March 3, 2014 at, Mansar ( Distt Samba). Out of the wedlock a girl child, was born on July 16, 2015. With the birth of the girl child the behavior/ attitude of her husband and her mother & father in law randomly changed. From the very inception, the husband and in laws started harassing and beating the deceased on regular basis for giving birth to a girl child. Many a times the compromise was sought between them before the Panchayat also, where her in-laws agreed not to beat and harass the deceased lady. But on the fateful day on September 4 around 3:00 pm in the afternoon she was burnt alive and succumbed on same day around 08:10 pm at GMC&H Jammu .
In the initial investigation police arrested her husband , father & mother in law only when the family members and relatives of the deceased blocked the National Highway near Vijaypur ( Distt Samba ). After the assurance of the police officials that the proper and fair investigation will be carried out in the interest of justice, the relative and member of deceased lifted the road blockade.
They said the elder sister of the deceased namely Sarita Devi after hearing the news about her younger sister telephonically reached GMC&H Jammu around 7:15 pm along with her husband namely Bhushan Kumar. In her statement today before the media person she categorically stated that after 10 to 15 minutes her sister reached GMC Jammu in the ambulance from Vijaypur. At that time the deceased was conscious and was crying in deep pain due to burn injuries . She was completely burnt below her chest. The deceased was immediately admitted in the Emergency Ward GMC&H. The elder sister of the deceased further stated that she spoke to her younger sister for a while and her younger sister in front of her and her husband asked for drinking water and stated that she was burnt by her husband , father & mother in law.
She said that all this has happened because of the birth of a girl child by the deceased. The accused persons from the very beginning were interested that the deceased should give birth to a male child rather than a girl child which was beyond her control.
The brother of the deceased Ajay Sharma corroborated the statement of his sister that his younger sister used to be tortured by her husband and in laws for bringing less dowry and for giving birth to a girl child.
He said the police after giving full assurance of proper and fair investigation has taken a U turn and till date no concrete steps and further investigation has taken place.
