JMC launches drive against open defecation at vulnerable spots

JAMMU, Sept 25: In pursuance of instructions and directions issued by Dr Manmohan Singh, Commiss-ioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation today launched drive against open defecation at vulnerable spots within the limits of Corporation.
The drive was launched by the sanitation teams under the supervision of Neeraj Gupta, Chief Accounts Officer and Dr Anita Salgotra, Health Officer JMC. The Sanitation Officers, Assistant Sanitation Officer, Sanitary Inspectors besides other supervisory and sanitation staff of JMC were also part of the teams.
The drive was launched in Ward numbers 47, 48, 52, 60, 62, and 66. The areas covered were Bahu fort, Kalika Colony, Press Morh, Marathi Mohalla, Harki Pori area, Upper Roop Nagar, Lower Roop Nagar, Paloura, Bantalab etc.
The motive of the drive was to spread awareness among the people involved in open defecation regarding the harmful effects of open defecation as this not only invites various diseases besides polluting the water bodies.
The owners of plots where the juggies were erected, were advised to provide toilet facilities to these tenants or approach to Jammu Municipal Corporation for construction of IHHL. (Individual House Hold Latrine).
The Public in general was advised to seek benefit of various schemes launched under SwachhBharat Mission by the Government of India like construction of (IHHL) Individual House Hold Latrine, Public Toilets, Community toilets and Housing for All (HFA) and approach Jammu Municipal Corporation.
