JAMMU, Sept 27: Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment, Choudhary Lal Singh today inaugurated ‘National Yoga Session’ organized by Yoga Society of Kashmir Federation at Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agriculture Science and Technology (SKUAST) in Chatha, here today.
The yoga session was attended by more than 5000 people from various parts of the country and Bulgaria, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Australia and Canada.
While speaking at the event, Choudhary Lal Singh said that observing of the yoga day marks universal acknowledgement of the virtues of Yoga. He further said that Yoga can actually help us to deal with a variety of health issues which have cropped up due to changing lifestyles.
Terming yoga as the best remedy for maintaining harmony between mind, body and soul, Lal Singh said that everyone should practise yoga and inculcate it as a way of living.
Later, the Minis-ter also attended a function at DRS Kids Playway School Bishnah.
Highlighting the various programmes launched by the Government like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Ladli Beti for prevention of gender biased sex selective elimination, ensuring survival, protection and education of the girl child, the Minister reiterated the commitment of the Government towards upliftment and empowerment of women.
He also stressed on the need to carry out intensified awareness campaign against the female foeticide to improve the sex ratio. He also asked the parents to avail the benefits of various welfare schemes for the girl child through Social Welfare Department.
