Both Houses pay tributes to Malik, Piara, Deshmukah

SRINAGAR, Oct 1: Both the Houses of State Legislature today adopted obituary references on the death of former Speaker, Malik Mohi-ud-Din, former MLC, Sardar Piara Singh and Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.
Describing Malik as a man of high stature, Legislative Assembly Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone said he was regarded as a constitutional expert, renowned Parliamentarian and a legal luminary. Mr Lone said Malik was instrumental in converting Plebiscite Front into National Conference (NC).
Malik served the State in different capacities including as Chairman State Branch of Common Wealth Parliamentary Association and as member of Indo-Arab Cultural Society.
While paying tributes to Sadar Piara Singh, the Speaker said he was elected as member LC twice in 1963 and 1980 as a NC candidate.
Speaking on obituary references, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah paid rich tributes to ex-speaker Malik Mohi-ud-Din and legislator Paira Singh describing them politicians of excellence whose aim was to do politics for the betterment of people and the society. He said that the principles of human dignity and politics of public cause were benchmark of their political life and they rendered selfless service to the people.
The Chief Minister also referred to the passing away of former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Union Minister Vilas Rao Deshmukh and paid tributes to him.
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti described Malik as an epitome of wisdom, knowledge and intellect. She also paid tribute to Sardar Piara Singh, adding that he served not only the Sikh community but all the downtrodden sections of the society.
Prof Chaman Lal Gupta while recalling his association with Ex-Speaker, late Malik Mohi-ud-Din said that he was sincere and dutiful person who spend his life for the service of the people. He said only those people need to be elected who can serve the people with dedication. He on the behalf of him and the members of his organization paid tributes to the Legislator Sardar Piara Singh also.
DPN, Chairman, Ghulam Hassan Mir in his tributes to the departed leaders said the Malik Mohi-ud-Din played a significant role in the House as well as in the State politics. He said such sincere leaders do come rarely and his role has been historic owing to his contribution to the whole society. He said Sardar Piara Singh was a down to earth politician and service to humanity was mission of his life.
M Y Tarigami in his tributes said that Malik Mohi-ud-Din is a role model and his contribution in freedom movement will be remembered for long. He said, the late leader worked shoulder to shoulder with Sher-i-Kashmir and Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg. He always remained sticked to his principles and ideology like a rock and never compromised on it..
Paying tributes to Malik Mohi-ud-Din, Mohammad Sharief Niaz said that late leader belonged to a middle class family and with the hard work rose to the heights of fame and prominence. He said that he was leader of masses and played a vital role in Indira-Abdullah accord. He also paid glorious tributes to Sardar Piara Singh and said that he was always on the forefront in solving the problems of people.
Later, the House observed two minute’s silence in remembrance of the departed leaders.
Legislative Council also adopted obituary references on the sad demise of former Speaker, Malik Mohi-ud-Din and former member of the House Sardar Piara Singh.
Moving the obituary references Chairman Amrit Malhotra said words are not enough to describe these noble souls. He said he shares the sentiments of the members on these two personalities.
Speaking on the references Minister for Technical Education and leader of the House R.S.Chib described Malik Mohi-ud-Din as a leading lawyer who made a mark in politics. He said Sardar Piara Singh belonged to Labana Community who worked hard for its upliftment. He said both of them were secular leaders of stature, whose contribution to public life would be long remembered.
Murtaza Ahmed Khan paid rich tributes to Malik Mohi-ud-Din and described him as a seasoned politician and nice gentleman. Syed Rafiq Ahmed Shah remembered the social contribution of Malik Mohi-ud-Din and Sardar Piara Singh towards the upliftment of the society.
M Y Taing said that Malik Mohi-ud-Din played important role in Beigh-Parthasathy talks during Indira Sheikh accord. He said Malik Mohi-ud-Din was a renowned lawyer and his contribution as a speaker would be remembered forever.
Ajay Sadhotra in his reference said that Malik Mohi-ud-Din was a political icon and said that he was regularly witnessing the House proceedings when the Assembly Session would start during last so many years. He said Sardar Piara Singh has worked for the people living below poverty line.
B R Kundal paid rich tributes to Sardar Piara Singh and said that he always highlighted the issues of farmers and people in different government forums for their early redressal.
Both the Houses also condemned the blasphemous film made by an American Film Producer.
