JAMMU, Sept 30: A strong protest demonstration and a dharna was organised by J&K Home Guards in support of their long pending demands at Panjtirthi here today.
A large number of Home Guards under the leadership of Kamla Sharma, president All J&K Home Guards Welfare Association assembled at Panjtirthi complex and started protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans against the Government and also in support of their demands.
While talking to the media-persons at the venue of protest, Kamla Sharma urged upon the State Govt to regularize the services of Home Guards in the line with the orders of Supreme Court as well as State High Court. She referred to the orders of both the courts which mentioned that Home Guards should also be paid at par with the Policemen. She said that States like Punjab, Himachal, Goa, Dehli and West Bengal have already done it.
She strongly demanded that J&K should implement the court orders in letter and spirit and the Govt should also release the salaries of the Home Guards at par with the Policemen. She warned to intensify the agitation if the Govt failed to implement the Supreme Court orders.
She regretted that while stone pelters in Kashmir are being provided jobs by the Govt, the Home Guard are being paid a peanut amount of Rs 60 per day which is great inhuman act. She sought the intervention of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in this connection.
Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion included Darshna Devi, Santosh Kumari, Kailash Devi, Varinder Singh, Fareed Ahmed, Bashir Ahmed, Rakesh Singh and others.
