DUBAI: Wriddhiman Saha and Rohit Sharma have made notable gains and climbed up the ladder in the latest ICC player rankings for Test batsmen, although none of the Indians figure in the top-10 list.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Saha’s unbeaten knocks of 54 and 58, and Rohit’s second-innings contribution of 82 not only enabled India to win the second match of the ongoing three-Test series against New Zealand and take an unassailable 2-0 lead but also helped them earn huge ranking points.
Saha has gained 18 slots to reach 56th place, while Rohit has moved up 14 spots to 38th position in the batsmen’s list, which is headed by Australian captain Steve Smith.
Cheteshwar Pujara is another India batsman to have climbed up a slot to 15th after scoring a total of 91 runs in the second Test, including a first innings knock of 87.
In the Test bowlers chart, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are the two Indians to figure in the top-10. While Ashwin has lost a position to be placed at 3rd spot, Jadeja has gained a place to be at 6th position with four wickets in the second Test at Kolkata.
India fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s six wickets in the Kolkata Test, including a five for 48 in the first innings, helped him gain nine slots to reach 26th place. His fellow pace bowler Mohammad Shami’s two three-wicket hauls have seen him move up two places to 23rd position.
South Africa pacer Dale Steyn has retained his number one position as a Test bowler.
Ashwin, meanwhile, continued to maintain his position at the top of the Test all-rounders’ list. (AGENCIES)
