Army foils 3 infiltration bids Three militants killed in Langate

Srinagar : Three militants were killed in North Kashmir by security forces after they attacked an army camp in Langare area of Handwara early today.

Superintendent of Police (SP), Handwara, Ghulam Jeelani told Excelsior that three militants were shot dead in Langate area of Kupwara district after they attacked army’s Battalion Headquarter.

“The firing has stopped. We have recovered three bodies of the militants. Three AK-47 rifles have also been recovered. We are conducting searches of the area”, said Jeelani.

He said: “At around 5 am, militants opened fire on Battalion headquarters of 30 Rashtriya Rifles of army at Langate in Kupwara district. The army retaliated and militants fled. Police and army immediately chased them and trapped them in nearby orchards.”

 

An Army spokesman said here that troops foiled three infiltration bids along the Line of Control in Kashmir today.

 

The spokesman said that two infiltration bids were foiled in Nowgam sector and one in Rampur sector of North Kashmir during the night.

 

Sources officer said that at least 5-6 militants attempted infiltration in Nowgam sector at two places and another group of 5-6 attempted through Rampur sector.

 

“The troops who are alert fired at the infiltrating militants and they fled back to Pakistan. Searches have been lunched in the area”, they added.

 

Earlier last evening Pakistani troops violated ceasefire in Sonapindi area of Macchil Sector in North Kashmir. “They fired mortars, artillery rounds and it was responded by our troops. The firing started at 6:30 p.m. and it went on till midnight. Artillery has been used first time in recent escalation.”
