Guns fall silent along LoC, uneasy calm prevails

JAMMU: After scores of ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu region for over a week, the guns fell silent as an uneasy calm prevailed along the border today.

There has been no ceasefire violation since last night along the LoC in Jammu, Poonch and Rajouri districts, Defence PRO Manish Mehta said.

Yesterday, Pakistan troops had resorted to heavy firing and mortar shelling, targeting several Indian posts and civilian areas in three sectors in Poonch and Rajouri districts. Indian forces responded strongly to the firing.

“Guns have fallen silent after our strong retaliation and befitting reply. There was no shelling and firing since 8.30 PM last night till now,” a senior Army officer said.

In the retaliatory action by Indian troops, 9 Pakistani soldiers were injured last night, sources said.

As per reports, three Indian troops suffered minor injuries in shelling at Sonagali area in Poonch district last evening. However, the Defence PRO said he had no information about it. (AGENCIES)
