9-yr-old drowns in Ranbir Canal

JAMMU, Oct 9: A nine-year-old boy died today due to drowning in Ranbir Canal in Purkhoo area of city outskirts.
According to a police spokesman, on getting information that a minor boy has drowned in Ranbir Canal near Sham Rice Mill in Purkhoo area, police and SDRF teams rushed to the spot and after hectic efforts, the dead body of the boy was located and evicted.
“According to the local people, the boy, who has been identified as Saurabh Sharma son of Puran Chand, resident of Purkhoo, slipped and fell into the canal when he went there to wash his hands. But his parents have refused this claim and are alleging that he (deceased) was pushed by some other boys”, the spokesman said.
He said that a case has been registered at concerned police station and investigations initiated while the body of the deceased has been shifted to mortuary of Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu for post mortem.
