Protest in Kotranka, road blocked for 5 hrs

RAJOURI, Oct 2:  Township of  Kotranka observed bandh while people held protest demonstration and  blocked road for over five hours today.
They were protesting against the Health Department for its decision to shift lights and some other equipment of under construction operation theatre of Kotranka hospital to Darhal hospital. As the people came to know that lights and some other equipment of the Darhal hospital has been shifted  in a ambulance to Darhal at around 10.30 am today they started assembling near hospital and started protest. The shopkeepers dropped their shutters and also joined protest.
The people raised barricades and blocked traffic on the road at around 11 am. The people irrespective of the party affiliation, joined hands  and started shouting  slogans against Health Minister Sham  Lal, Director Health Services Dr Madhu Khullar and CMO Rajouri. A large number of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road for long. The police tried to intervene but failed to  convince the large gathering. Prominent among those who addressed gathering included  Ayub Pahalwan from Congress, Th Balwant Singh from PDP and Shafi Choudhary from NC.
Later, with the intervention of BMO, the ambulance along with lighting equipment was returned to Kotranka at around 4.30 pm and the people suspended their agitation. The BMO said since operation theatre at Darhal was ready, it was decided to shift the lights there. The work of OT at Kotranka was still going on and it had to take some time. Fresh equipment was planned to procure for Darhal hospital OT but the people took it otherwise.
