Manhas starts 48 hour fast against rampant corruption

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Oct 2: BJP State President, Shamsher Singh Manhas on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti today began his 48-hour fast (Satyagrah) at Pt. Premnath Dogra Chowk here to focus on rampant corruption and series of scams in the State, Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) scam in particular.
Addressing the Party activists on the occasion, Mr Manhas placed three major demands with regard to JKCA scam. These included handing over of the inquiry of JKCA to CBI, resignation of Union Minister Farooq Abdullah from the post of JKCA President and reconstituting of the JKCA. He said that JKCA has been continuously under the control of Farooq Abdullah for last several years and instead of serving its purpose of promoting cricket, it has become a den of misappropriation of funds by a handful of individuals.
He said that as per the statements of JKCA former treasurer Ehsan Mirza and J&K Bank officials, dubious transactions of money were carried out with the approval and signatures of Farooq Abdullah. The inquiry should also investigate the huge funds received from Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) by JKCA for developing the sport of cricket, providing infrastructure for cricket stadiums and training young sports persons to compete at national and international level.
Mr Manhas said that BJP is committed to fight against corruption at national and State level and it has been continuously protesting against various scams in the State, both on the streets as well as in the Assembly. He added that till the JKCA scam inquiry is taken to its logical conclusion, the BJP will continue to agitate.
